Keeping your mind free from unwholesome thoughts is almost becoming a luxury many can’t afford. Ever since the society and media resolved that the only thing that means entertainment is nudity and swore that obscene images would never stop screaming at us, the battle did not just become intense but mandatory; one you have to fight whether you are ready or not.

The other day I went to the saloon to get my hair done, the TV was showing song after song- Nigerian music videos and I was directly in front of the screen. You can imagine what kinda images they threw at me, leaving me to wonder how people manage to download so much poison into their phones and devices and feast their eyes on them.

I am also amazed at how passionate and disciplined we can be about eating right and keeping fit physically or growing our natural hair but can’t exercise the same in keeping our minds pure.

The truth is that keeping a pure mind is more difficult when you entertain yourself with sensual videos, (not to mention pornography). I don’t know how else to describe these things if not to call them poisons- that’s what they are. They can kill!

You will also agree with me that these images are addictive; they gradually lure you into wanting more cos the more you see, the more you want to see.

To keep your mind sane, you have to be intentional about it, for example I personally choose not to download a whatsapp video without first confirming the content with the sender especially if it’s not someone I know well because these poisons are everywhere and easily jump at you at the slightest chance.

Keeping your mind pure is much easier when you detoxify your phones and free them of these deadly poisons so you can experience the peace that comes from a pure heart.

While depending on the Holy Spirit, don’t forget that God is never going to come and shut your eyes while you are watching a poisonous video, you have to simply get up and move away.

Finally, you remember the popular song “slow fade” by Casting Crowns? Sin draws us slowly and patiently until we are neck deep and by then; coming out becomes a heinous task, so we keep coming back for more.

That’s why it’s best not to let them in than convince yourself that after letting them in, you won’t keep your mind on them, that’s too much work for a lifetime.

Rather let’s devote our hearts wholly to God feast on his word.

Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anythings is excellent or praise worthy- think about such things.”

So pick your battle today: gulp them in and then fight to flush them out or keep them completely away from your territory? The later is ‘dopper’, I think.
