Hello people,
A big shout out to all Prospective corps members!
Today, registration will begin for a new batch of corps members and if you are one of them, Congratulations! I am sure by now you are either making plans to work out your state of deployment or you have decided leave it to chance saying que sera sera. Well, I will not advice either of the two.
Let me explain; I won’t advice anyone to leave his/her posting to chance because your life is not a probability theorem. Don’t trivialize it saying “it is just one year”, believe me; God has a plan.
I also won’t advice anyone to skim his/her way to get a particular state because of how much they are paying or the potential of ease and comfort.
Now, you may ask: What if there is a state that I desire to serve in? Must God always post me to where I don’t want like the North so that I will go and suffer? #smiles#
Well, if you desire a particular state, then it’s very simple. Go to the Lord in prayer and ask him for it, make your desire known to him; if he thinks it’s best for you and pleasing to him, he will grant it.
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.”
Also, your motives for wanting a particular State must be purified. If you are motivated by how much they will pay you, then I want to inform you that you have removed your trust from the Lord and placed it on a vain thing (a State). The Lord is the source of your prosperity not your alawee.
I remember few years back when my State was among the highest paying States, everyone was trooping there but in one night, a letter from the Accountant General of the State and the signature that followed slashed down the alawee so much that people began redeploying again. So you see? it’s a rat race- chasing after the money.
As we all know, certain conditions are usually accepted by NYSC as reasons for redeployment which include; marriage, health issues and insecurities. Nobody is going to force you to serve in a State that will endanger your life and bring sorrow to your family.
If you are a Prospective Corps Member (PCM) and will be proceeding to begin registration, you can read my post on Letting God lead HERE. Then sit down and think about it for a while, do you really believe that God has a plan for your life? I guess so. Do you believe that God rules over the affairs of men including NYSC posting? Yes I do.
Then, if you truly believe; don’t lie or give bribe to anyone!
Recently, I had a discussion with a PCM and she asked me to bring some money so she can help me work out my posting. She told me that the guy had already assured her that it will be favourable. She also told me the amount for certain States like Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and that of other States depending on my preferences. Her choice was Lagos and she was going to pay.
“That State you are lying or paying money to get is not a green pasture, only God can cause you to lie down in green pastures.”
I asked her a simple question: Why do you want to serve in Lagos? She replied: “That’s where the money is.” She continued “Nne, in this life, I cannot suffer again. It is money that is used to pursue money, I will rather pay now (a huge sum in my estimate) than be posted to one village like that where I will go and suffer. Once it works out and I get to camp, I will begin to work out my PPA after surveying the area and knowing the best paying places.”
I smiled.
This is a real-life conversation not a story.
You can guess my answer. I told her that I am a blessed child of God and I don’t run after money, God causes it to flow towards me.
You see, I have no problem with you having a State where you desire to serve in. It’s OK to desire and even now NYSC made it easy by giving you a range of choices. So all I want you to do is make your desires known to God. If there is any state you are eyeing, talk to God about it and choose it when registering, if God thinks it’s the best for you, he will cause you to be posted there.
David said in Psalm 23 “He makes me to lie down in green pastures.” You think green pastures are only in Lagos, Abuja, PH? No, you don’t even know where the green pastures are. God does and he has promised to plant you there and water you if you will let him.
That State you are lying or paying money to get is not a green pasture, only God can cause you to lie down in green pastures. So this is a time to make up your mind; if you have been trusting God all along, then this is another time to trust him more.
Even if you are posted to a seemingly ‘dry State’, do you know that God causes rivers of water to flow in the desert? He said “silver and gold are mine” and in another place “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” There are countless promises God has made in the scriptures. He won’t fail!
Finally, I learnt this timeless truth from Selwyn Hughes: “God always gives his best to those who leave the choice to him.” Think about it.
xoxo
Do have a beautiful weekend!
PS: If you have served or are serving; I would love to hear your testimony. Feel free to share how God helped you in the comment box, I am sure many will be blessed and encouraged.
